Mr. Matthews is an experienced trial lawyer having tried hundreds of cases during his career, primarily personal injury (mostly representing defense but some plaintiffs), products liability, professional liability, insurance company defense and commercial litigation.

Mr. Matthews has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since the first edition in 1977. He received the Outstanding Lawyer Award from the Arkansas Bar Association and Arkansas Bar Foundation in 1968. He is a Member of the Arkansas and American Bar Associations, a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, and a Member of the Arkansas Association of Defense Counsel.

• George v. Jefferson Regional Medical Center - This is a landmark Arkansas case involving charitable immunity of non-profit hospitals. Mr. Matthews represented the hospital which won in the lower Court, affirmed by the Arkansas Supreme Court in 1999.
• Overton et al v. Blankenship et al - Three-week trial in 2005. Plaintiffs sought judgment for several million dollars against Defendants represented by Mr. Matthews. The case involved Trusts owning real property and farm leases. Jury verdict for Plaintiffs for less than 1% of the amount sought.
• Woodward v. Scott Tractor and Equipment Company et al - This was a death case against the manufacturer of a crane and other Defendants. Mr. Matthews represented the supplier of the crane. Favorable settlement at mediation by Mr. Matthews’ client in 2008.
• Low v. Lexington Insurance Company and Boy Scouts of America - Low sustained catastrophic injuries at a Boy Scout camping event. Summary Judgment entered in favor of the Defendants, reversed by the Arkansas Supreme Court which overruled existing precedent, and settled during the second day of trial in 2007.
